In 1936, Dale Carnegie penned How to Win Friends and Influence People. He wrote about the difference between being interested and being interesting. Many people want to tell you how interesting they are. True influence comes from being interested in others.

When it comes to content based marketing, guess what wins? It’s not sharing how interesting you are but associating with what your target audience is interested in.

Many businesses have great ideas, great educational info, and believe me when I tell you that it makes people feel good to see their content out there (I know I like seeing my work out there). And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s great, but it’s not the best.

While we all love instant gratification, patience with your social media approach is key.

In recognizing that you will not instantly gain thousands of followers, retweets, or favorites overnight, you are able to concentrate on building value through engagement and content, which will help your number of quality followers and interactions flourish organically.

If you have been wondering if your website is in need of an SSL Certificate, the answer may be yes!

On approximately January 31st of this month, version 56 of the Chrome web browser will be released. There is a significant change in the way it displays websites that are not using HTTPS, also known as SSL. This change may confuse your site visitors or surprise you if you are not expecting it.

Starting with the release of Chrome 56 this month, any website that is not running HTTPS will have a message appear in the location bar that says “Not Secure” on pages that collect passwords or credit cards.

Instagram has rolled out its live video feature and it has an interesting twist. The new Instagram feature doesn’t have a fancy name, and will join an increasingly crowded field of live video apps out there, which includes parent company Facebook, Twitter’s Periscope, YouTube and so on.

Just like original video streaming pioneers, you can’t save Instagram live videos and watch them later.

Miss it, and you missed it.

As this year ends, I find myself both looking forward to 2017 and another year in business, and looking backward over the last twelve months. While I do feel a bit overwhelmed and tired, I also feel satisfied about all I have achieved. As I stack up the months and years that I’ve been in business, I like to reflect back to when I started this new adventure and how excited I was to begin. While I knew that running my own business would take a lot of my time, it seemed like the right thing to do and I was filled with ideas that fueled more ideas that inspired me to move forward.

My business has been like a child to me. I have birthed it, nurtured it, fed it and protected it.  As it continues to grow and take shape, I am filled with pride and happiness that I am accomplishing what I have set out to do. But I will not lie – it has been hard, there have been times of self-doubt, and times when I have second guessed myself and my abilities.  But in the end, I have learned that what drives my business is my enthusiasm for learning new things,  my boundless energy that keeps me focused and engaged, and the courage to  take action on those concepts that I have found useful to myself as well as to my clients. And this is what has kept me going.
